Well after a few guys at work, and a few of my mates are getting back into mountain biking, and me on a 'health kick' i decided to start riding to work and start hitting cannock chase.

wanted something that would be suitable for the daily commute (toe path/canal and on-road), and then for cross country up the chase, decided a hard tail would be best.

well im going to be going all out saving for the new car so want to get into commuting to work on two wheels.

she hasn't seen much use since i got her, 6-7 times to work and back, but it felt a real effort to get up to and maintain a decent speed on the road with the HENCH off road knobbly tyres. sick when i go along the canal toe path but when its wet i go the road way

so it was time for new tyres. i wanted to get something with the least amount of rolling resistance, and asking around and reading reviews these came out at the top of the list

Continental Sport Contacts. will make my hardtail kind of a hybrid

Specialized Rockhopper XL 2010 F6cf7bea

Specialized Rockhopper XL 2010 5ae888a7

they came in 26x1.6 & 26x1.3. i went with the narrower 1.3 profile to have the least amount of rolling resistance, but it will possibly be less comfortable over bumps.

I was a little worried about them being more prone to punctures but they came with this notice

just finished fitting them but i have a problem

i dont have the correct nozzle for pumping them up lol

off to halfords

Very nice bit of kit there dude! You'll have to let me know when you next go over the chase! Wouldn't mind tagging along!

I know what you mean with chunky dirt tyres on road lol! I have 2.1 and 2.3 on mind and it's bare effort lol!

least rolling resistance my arse, you wanted mAd stretch, next up get the grinder out and slam it haha

Theres a guy that works at one of the boots stores i go to with a similar setup ('road' tyres on a 'off road' bike), i weirdly like the look, its like them scramblers with road tyres, looks mad

Riding a bike = more exercise (burning fat n carbs n stuff) making it easier somewhat defeats the object??

i know what your saying but by that logic bikes should be made from lead with square wheels as to make it as hard as possible, hes using it to commute, not specifically for exercise

Specialized Rockhopper XL 2010 2a30fe31

Specialized Rockhopper XL 2010 30db8478

i hear what your saying powelly lol, but as ezza said its to make the commute not so much of a hassle, reducing effort but still will be excercise. just makes it easier to ride past the car on the way out of the drive Razz
