Bolt in cages

I wouldnt trust my life with one anymore!

Iv been doing a bit of reading tonight, also came accross this:





notice in the first picture the cage was pushed straight through the floor of the car!!

also just a fyi, both driver and passenger escaped un harmed

I have a bolt in cage and I'd trust it, it seems very well made and very sturdy obviously though unless I roll my car I'm never hopefully going to find out exactly how well made.
With the above you posted it would be nice to know the circumstances of the crash as this would give insight into why the cage failed so epicly. I'm pretty sure you could find a lot of examples on the net where a bolt in cage has saved someones life but unfortunately one bad will stick in peoples minds over 100 goods.

looking at the picture id say it was the floor that failed not the cage....mounting points were obviously not re enforced...on a race car too???

yup I agree with the above, did the cage collapse? or did where it was bolted looking at secong pic give in?

ezz thats just bad fitting to thin metal i thought they had banned bolt in welding is better

there were obviously no spread plates in place (which typically arent used with bolt in cages) or if there were the weight of the car going back over front pushed it through anyway.

In all fairness that car even stripped out probably weighs ALOT

but i was doing some reading and this cropped up showing (all be it slightly exagerated) the main weakness of a bolt in in a crash scenario

with a weld in your supposed to use a 6"x6" plate welded under the but of the cage to spread the load, and obviously the more points (2,4,6,8 etc) the better

tbh though i think the cage i want is going to be a bolt in but i'l weld spreaders in and weld it in
