Hi

So i sold the teg, guy gave me a £100 deposit and now has decided he cant afford it, after i have spent it AND told potential buyers it is no longer for sale.

what would you do?

I asked on Money Saving Expert for their opinion too

Just checked the paypal payment which has no description attatched :s

The deposit was confirmation that the deal was done. It's not your fault he's backed out, in my eyes he can whistle for it - it's his bad

If that's the case Ezza he can't dispute it, as there's no info to back it up.

You have to give deposit back if you sold it to someone else.
He backed out, he looses deposit.

If you feel generous you could offer when/if you sell it he can get his deposit back. I wouldn't rush to give it back if I was you

Deposit works both ways, if he backs out you keep it, if not it's his until he pays (considering he sticks to time scale agreed)

deposits are the sellers as soon as the money swaps hands, used as a down payment to hold it.
in my eyes he can jog on.
if that was me id not expect to get my deposit back

he's not stupid he obviously know's how a deposit works as im sure everyone does, he gave it you on the those terms, its his fault if he backs out...... LAOW HIM!!!

I was in a similar situation once, i was selling my little clio took a deposit and got time off work to meet the guy and everything he never even called me or nothing so got hold of him and he told me he didnt want it and i could keep HALF the deposit. I just said not being funny but its a deposit you dont get it back so he just told me to fark off and hung up lol.
