PostSubject: hardc0re's Almera GTi   hardc0re's Almera GTi EmptyMon 01 Nov 2010, 7:02 am

all of this is copied and pasted from my other threads on other forms so dont worry if it dosnt make sense lol

so bye bye to the AlmeraT and onwards and upwards with Kitty the Red GTi.

plans are

get it rolling roaded first, then...

strip the rat, fit koyorad, coilovers, vzr grille, SSA 4-2-1, decat, autech system, Fujitsubo SS Backbox, short shift, basicaly all performance mods that are on the RAT will be shipped over to Kitty.

also need to get the braided hoses off the blue gti and fit them, need to bleed the brakes and fit new pads and rebuild calipers as the OS is binding

there is currently an 'ebay special' induction kit which will be going asap and replaced with a standard airbox and cold feed.

also need to clean up a spot of bubble rust on the front wing

stevie wonder must have done the touch ups on the bonnet and ray charles must have inspected the handy work

other than that she is pretty mint

oh... and got it for a grand total of £880

bought 20mm spacers off a guy on AOC

plans are as follows

1. fit studs
2. fit goodridge braided hoses
3. discs and pads
4. bleed with 5.1
5. fit spacers 20mm front 20mm rear (with additional 5mm ones 25mm total Very Happy)
6. lower the front
7. fit g60 steel wheels
8. rake the bag outa it

also, got a bit bored today so stuck the steelies on the front, other set are ****ed, no tread left at all on the inside....camber FTL!

well thats that done! full day at it yesterday,

fitted 63mm scooby studs, 20mm spacers, vented grooved and drilled front discs, dimpled and grooved rear discs and ebc red stuff pads all round, fitted my goodridge braided hoses on the rear along with newish calipers off my old blue gti.

ive got goodridge front braided hoses to fit but the fittings on the front of the car were rusted to fook and wouldnt budge after leaving them overnight to soak in wd40 and going at them with wire brush and vice grips, so new pipes in a week or two then to fit the braided ones.

bled the system with dot 4 for the mean time, dot 5.1 when i get the front hoses done.

took her a run up the street, slapped the brakes on......holy moly doughnuts! she stops dead and and they pads haddnt even bedded in!

got wrapped up about 8pm, washed her, stuck 20 quid in and went for a blip.

on the way out i could hear a metal on metal noise.... the dust/heat shield round the disc was rubbing against it.... but thought to myself.... meh, itll be ok, itll wear down and go away.... it wore down allright.... the bloody disc that is, (120 miles later) there is now a ring round the middle of the inside platter ffs. not bad but you can feel it if you run your nail along it. lesson learnt!

overall conclusion....

with the widened wheel base, albeit 40mm, she seems to stick to the road better, havnt pushed it too hard in the twistys yet but time will tell. (our nurburgring is closed at the moment) Sad

the brakes are razor sharp, if it were a bike youd be over the handle bars, you need to feather them now compared to the way they were before.

worth every penny and hour of work spent!

sorry for the long winded post!

Copied and pasted from AOC

UPDATE 14-09-10

Bonjour all! Well Sunday seen a thorough clean and polish of the car, (went to a Honda meet, pictures here) the tar remover was also out on force due to the front wheels sitting out further than usual and the build up of tar along the passenger side was getting out of control! Really want to take pride in the GTi seeing as i just spent 500 quid getting paintwork done. Next up is the roof but that wont be for about a year as my painter is off touring the world and I know what his paintwork is like.

You will be glad to know that my G60's will be away to get banded (hopefully next month) once I find out how much to get them banded by, 2", 3" etc. As is stands, I think I will get the rears banded about 3 or possible 4 inches and the front, probably 2 inches, but this isn't definite as I need to get the rims onto the car and measure out from the lip of the rim to the edge of the arch and add to acquired taste.

Tyres will probably be 195 50 15, 45 profile will never fill the arch and 55 will be ****e for stretch.

Still pondering on what colour to paint them, either white, black, gun metal or bronze. Want to get the bump strips painted red to match the car.

Also going to give things a tidy up under the bonnet, paint rocker cover, batt tray, power steering fluid can, inlet manifold etc, going to use a dark silver that my brother has lying about the house.

PS. you will be glad to know that the bonnet has been lowered a lot more.

Over and out!
Chris

thanks for all the kind words, makes it worth the effort

pressed plates will be done at some point. the girlfriend has very generously told me we are going to barcelona in feb next year..... and asked for my deibit card so things are on hold at the mo.

im looking at getting a dslr camera so the wheels are out the window for now. lets face it, its winter and they would get ruined with the road salt/grit and snow etc if i was to get them done now, maybe not a bad idea i have other things to spend my money on at the moment lol

March update

well seeing as the clutch is going now i needed to look into getting a new one, exedy was my preference as ive heard good reports on them. while the box is off to do the clutch i thought i may as well do the flywheel while im that far.

so im hoping to place an order of the following from UltraRev via their eBay store.

Fidanza flywheel (part# 43201)
Exedy Clutch (part# KNS02)

While im changing the above im going to carry out a full service including

Bosch Super4's
New HT Leads (thinking of buying magnacor's later on so may not change at this point)
Halfords Oil filter
Havoline 5w/30

Im also hoping to invest in a Nismo FPR at some point down the line

and.......

get these steelies banded, i had planned on getting them done this month, but then the clutch decided to shit itself and had to tax the bitch too!

UPDATE 20-03-11

friday afternoon i fitted my heko wind deflectors, really help reduce wind into the cabin.... hence the name and purpose Very Happy

carried out a service yesterday with new NGK BKR6E-11 plugs, halfords oil filter, Havoline SAE 5w/30, and fitted Magnecor leads.

had to go to parcel force too to pick up my drivers side poly mount from GSpec, so fitted that too, was a piece of piss to fit, hardest part was getting the old rubber one out... cue 2lb ball hammer, chissel, hacksaw, wd40, lots of swearing and an almost broken shed window.

today i power washed the arches, coilovers, underside and engine bay, all sparking clean now, vacuumed, washed the outside too and cleaned windows inside and out.

got a bit bored with looking at dirty, manky wheels so popped down to halfords and bout some matt black......

ill quit waffling and let the pics do the talking, sorry about the quality of the underground car park ones.
