| just read through all of this, and can sympathise with you totally, iv just had to do all the rings, rod shells and valve stem seals on mine, and it was just as the weather was getting cold. Its a shame i didnt know sooner as i have a full set of rings, main bearings, rod shells and thrust washers sitting here | |

| oh well, its half way now anyway, just waiting on the crank to be ground. Im a little confused about getting bearings, the engine place says not to bother plastiguaging but i want it perfect.
What did you do and how is it?

| i didnt have to do the main bearings but did the rod bearings just because it was out. iv got the old ones here and a full set of brand new tai ho ones (people who make them for honda) as i used acl race bearings. Didnt bother plastigauging as the old ones were fine.
To check my bores wernt oval i just pust a piston ring down each bore, then used a guage and tried to push the 5 thou one down the side of the ring. did this all up and down the bore and there was absoluteley no gap down the side of the rings showing that they were still circular. Bit of a ghetto way of doing it i suppose but it works lol.
You going to get the crank nitrided while its out?

| i read the quickest way to check bore roundness is measure 4 point top and bottom of bore, they should all be the same reading or withtin a certain tollerance. nah not getting it nitrided, just getting what i need doing done, trying to cap spending on this rebuild as much as. got my head back from the shop the other day: and i tracked my wheels again today, and it said they were IN MY LOUNGE!!! | |
