it began in april-june 2009 work was going really well i was now older so it was time to finnally go boosted, i had a saxo vts and got sick of the chav comments even though it was prooven to be a great car on many occassions, i was also at the time looking to go for a supercharger conversion by that company up in scotland, i seriously wanted more power and a friend of mine had just swapped a fast 106 gti for an mr2 turbo and i felt left out being the odd one out of my mates who all owned jap cars which most of you will probably know aswell, i already had a big passion for jap motors anyway so it didnt take much.
so with that i was looking at alsorts from a bugeye wrx impreza, evo 3, pulsar gtir to mr2 turbo and s13 etc... i then stuck the car on pistonheads for pxs etc....i ended up going all the way down south from the midlands to part ex the little beast for a manual 300zx twin turbo, but the ickle paxo let me down in all my time of good ownership and the exhaust decided to snap on a speed hump 3/4 of the way down(probably my luck) and nowhere would fix it that day, so it was just an instant offput,
i then made my way back home disheartened especially as it cost me 80 quid for the day out, and especially being passenger in the 300zx when he took me drifting(showing me how he abuses the car all the time pretty much so wasnt a bad thing more of a blessing lol)
week later somebody messaged me with an st205 generation 6 toyota celica gt4 to ask about swapping cars on pistonheads, so a trip to wales later i came home with a gt4 that needed a good home,
with NO MOT and pretty much a running shell that didnt run right, it had been sat because the owner was in the army and was no longer using it due to full time training in the marines so he wanted something less to run from training camps, and somebody who would get the car back into shape and he loved how the vts performed round the lanes,i put cash ontop and we traded logbooks bear in mind my saxo vts wasnt just a normal one it had loads of nice mods done at lad motorsport, over 5k worth of work on the engine and handling , it was a great car and is responsible still today for my love of french hot hatches, and fast hatches in general even though i now swear to stick to japanese motors because all along it was my dream to go jap just couldnt afford the insurance being young, the saxo vts is also big time to blame for my love of the ek9 civic type r, exactly the same feel fast tin-can, but awesome sound and its JAP.
anyway back to the car
it had full history, mots and the import paperwork and looked to be in very good condition too for its age,
Imported from Japan in 2004 jdm import 255bhp/uk spec 240bhp in standard form 59000 miles 1995 engine rebuilt, cambelt, water pump, coolents, gearbox and fluids etc...all changed by THOR Racing a few months before i had the car, all the paperwork and loads of recipts from toyota servicing the car
bought it knowing toyota had told the guy before the clutch wanted doing and a small dent in the rear when somone backed into it, also a very small dent on the bonnet from the inside where something had been underneath when it was shut, and just general small bits of tlc.
came with a few nice mods too so was a bonus
the guy was under the impression on a service at toyota that the clutch needed changing and so was i, untill i did my homework after enquiring it could of cost up to a £1000 to let a garage take the engine out to fit an oem clutch kit and take a perfectly good expensive clutch out that was apparently knackered it even sounded knackered luntill i had an understanding later on of what a twin plate clutch sounds like, and driving it, it didnt slip the bite was either there or nothing, it just wouldnt go into gear,
turns out after joining the gt4 owner club, after litterally the turn of a nut it went into gear perfectly fine with no problems and i was also informed of how bad twin/triple plate clutches sound
after that i then booked it into the bodyshop to have the back dent done
then i had it motd at a strict mot centre to see what was wrong with it
it failed on: headlamps both needed adjustment 1 front spring was snapped and corroded the other one was not far off handbrake needed adjustment one of the front brake hose needed changing and the windscreen wiper didnt cover enough of the windscreen
all in all it wasnt bad
so i had all that fixed a nice bill later and it had an mot
then ordered a few bits including the later spec rears
i fitted the later spec JDM Kouki rear lights and took a few pics of my mates motors that come over lol
the bonnet vent was badly stone chipped as they all end up so it needed rubbing down and respraying with some decent gloss black enamel paint
then i got it on the road and a week after driving discovered that the boost controller had been turned off all along, green didnt mean on and it went pretty well and certainly made me smile @1.1 bar,
i then did an oil and filter change even changed the sump plug and nut which is very unusual for me used millers cfs 10/40 fully synth and oem toyota oil filter
few pics from then
then brought an RT-Performance carbon fibre bonnet

fitted the bonnet, didnt like the mesh in silver so took that out and sprayed that the same black as the vent on the oem bonnet, fitted my tax disk lol
3 coats of paint and the vent mesh is all back in, i managed to get about 6 coats on my other vent grill on the standard bonnet but i ran out of paint, if it chips ill buy some more

i brought a few little goodies trd rad cap and demon decat downpipe
then after a trackday the plastic header tank on my rad split so replaced that with an uprated asi alu rad
also fitted new hoses from race spec performance.
as usual i then interfeared with something that never needed messing with, but the hose wasnt straight, and oops had to buy a new one

then made a start fitting the downpipe:
1st the charge cooler had to come off as theres no way of getting to the dp without taking the cc,rad(again) and turbo manifold cover as you need the room to get to the bolts
then brought some rare trd coilovers set up by tal motorsport
then fitted the new catch tank after id snapped mine check the bodge i did lol, worked fine(there was also a pipe in there but i ripped it out before the pic.
and nice new one
draining radiator again to get to the bolts
radiator back out
manifold cover off
lamda sensor out
wanted to get these powdercoated as im not into shiny engine bay chrome stuff especially if you use the car propperly, but never had the time

then decided to put some stickers on lol
then decided to finnish off fitting the downpipe when we had the snow early 2010, so i could enjoy some drifty time lol, was a nightmare my hands and feet went numb i was seriously ill after spending a day in the snow lol.
cant beat working at 7-8 at night in the snow under torch light...lol

rearseats out/seatbelts etc

picked the cage up from rt-performance in london on the way home was fun came into contact with an evo 8-9 fq300 and a ferrari 550 marranello both happy to play,
it was an absolute bastard to squeeze parts in as to be expected even with the nuts all loose the thing wouldnt budge.
front bar the wrong way round lol
this bar was a bastard to fit in as it was the last bar to put together lol

then brought a new blitz 1.3 bar rad cap, as id sold the other trd cap because it was a different size to the new rad
brought a trd oil filter
then brought a forge motorsport fmic
hks electronic/graphic control computer
then a hks fcon v ecu
also bought some heatwrap for the dp

work started to drop off at this point and id already put a deposit down on the ecu so i had to sell the trd coilovers to pay for my hks ecu
then struggled to fit the new brake pads as any celica owner knows the standard calipers are a bastard with them pins that are toyota only part.
worked on the cage agen
work completely died at this point, i then took the gt4 off the road sold the hks ecu sold a few other bits to make abit of money, and then brought a 1.3 gls suzuki swift to get me by
picked it up from bedford for £140 7 months mot and 5 months tax, was an ace little runner and on cut springs lowered 100mm
me being me i then decided it needed suitable rims so off i went down to kent the day after i brought the car, in a car i didnt know if it was reliable or not, just over 400 miles round trip,
i wanted the rust as a feature vws could get away with it so so could i.
and then i give it a quick clean
picked up these 3 piece 15" auto strada split rims, tyres were no good for my car they needed serious stretch and arch flaring
i then never fitted them got abit of money behind me decided i wanted some boost back, sold the stradas for nearly double i paid for them at £350 or £400 cant remember now lol
after some nail biting close calls to swapping it for a host of cars and messing people about the length of the country i very nearly settled on a dc2 integra type r but i couldnt let go everytime someone took an interest, i motd and taxed the beast again and out it came once again(with my last few pennys with litterally 1 day a week working lol)

tbh they aint really out special unless tuned and mine has been totally unreliable, i love the little starlets being a hatchback man anyway , you just cant get that same feeling driving the big cars, i do love my car though but if i could do it all agen i may of chosen to save and pick an evo 7 for what ive spent on the car,
the great thing with the celica though is put it on a stand with the evos and imprezas and nobody will take an interest in the gt4, this is what i used to love about the pulsar gti-r but everyone now knows they are a very capable car so the sleeper image these days has gone.

then me my old man and captain birdseye did my brake pads down north wales at my caravan what a nightmare that was i ordered the propper pins from toyota but they were going to not arrive for a few weeks and i was going to wakestock music festival so during the day we tackled them having to take the calipers off,
putting them in good old collins vice(handy having a few old boys down there that are retired mechanics)
we hacksawed the centre of the pin twisted the rest with the molegrips once pads were out and then drilled the rest and you will not believe what we used as a temporary measure you health and safety bods will love it "TENT PEGS" pmsl tbf they were probably safer than the actual pins but youll be glad to know i sorted it when they arrived
even one of the cast out of "burjurac" gave a help in hand

never got any pics of the tent pegs but, the car all legal with pins in nice and safe
and then my car was vandalised by mates lmao
fitted my headunit back in after robbing it for the swift
engine trouble
always wondered if the turbo was a hybrid, as i have always been puzzled by the performance and sound of it, i have no paperwork to back it up with though so...
then i removed the thermostat
then i decided to wire the oil pressure gauge back up which ended misurably
whoops
CHEESE I MEAN BRASS
out came the tap set i let my dad do this because i didnt want to damage the head or get metal fillings in there
snapped a tap in there with thread lol so we had to drill that out and use another tap thankfully it come out
