| Update; Me and jay (EA jay) spent a few hours getting the cars swapped round ready to work on the EK (couldnt find my teg key) and getting the intake mani off. A few things seem to have been contributing to loosing power and poosibly causing the failure; Exhuast mani had 3 different types of bolts holding it on, most were alen key ones which were a complete bitch as u can imagine, 2 of them were finger tight. The bottom bolt was missing from the dizzy. Cylinder 1's spark plug hole was full of oil (my fault) Im kinda pleased when i find these things cus i now know they were wrong and i can fix them, makes me think theres more power to unlock in this thing too. Iv ordered some new piston rings, so starting from the core of the engine thats the first thing sorted. anyway heres a couple of pics to look at till the next update: And a teaser of a sectret project im working on: | |

| how come there was oil in the cylinder dude? so it could of been ignition problems from the dizzy too! ye, when i had it from the last owner it had the manifold welded to the centre section, and then welded to the back box. had to drop the lca to get the whole thing off in one go. found two bolt holes in the head were threaded. took it to a garage to get helicoiled http://www.furybusa.org.uk/images/Engine_Rebuild14.jpgbut they said the head would have to come off, as they said they wouldnt be able to drill and tap while it was still on the car. so only option was to have two inserts fitted and i bought a whole vti-s mani + cat + b-pipe + back box and its was fine. if your gona have the head off its prob a good idea to helicoil the holes while its off. | |

| Somehow the circular rubber ring that seals the rocker around the sparkplug hole was missing (me being the last person there it must have been me), but other than the sparkplug hole filling with oil it wouldnt have made any diff, once its full the oil couldnt go anywhere, plus it wasnt miss firing (not sure if oil is a conductor). cant have helped though.
I will do that with the head, after having a closer look i noticed there were inserts, the engine centre il take it too should be able to do it.
the actual exhaust pipes are shite, the bends are diah and iirc it doesnt bend up and over the rear trailing arm which means it scrapes more than it should, not good when i go lower. I think im just going to get a ebay system and sell the backbox to put teh oem one back on, and maybe a mani (a high up one)

| Hi mate, Im ben witht he ek9. basically what dave said. but the rattle was only at about 3000rpm. i drove it home nice and easy so i didint wreck anything else. the next day i started to strip it down and yes it was the crank mains and big ends. the state of them wasnt a pretty sight! so i took the crank to an engine shop and they reground it 0.25mm i think and they ordered me the new bearings in too. total of £140 then refitted everything and pdropped it back in and runs perfectly fine now its pretty easy to do. i also changed a few things whist doing this. such as new timing belt, sump gasket, baffled sump, 4-2-1, borderspeed 304, tegiwa decat, innovative billet mounts and a good clean in the engine bay. its not on the road yet cause im gonna wire tuck it hopefully and gwet a few things powder coated and then all i need is tax and mot and it will be sorted. not long now if your gonna do the repair yourself, just let me know and il give you ahnd if needed. ben | |

cheers, you local then?

| cheers ben! i remember how gutted you were that night! was unexpected wernt it lol get your build up in the gallery ye is the b-pipe hangin low n shit? it was a brand new spurious. spurious being the key word i think there lol. i had an ebay system on the grey ek and that fitted nicely, nice and high up! good idea with that dude + there strong. i caught the b-pipe-to-back box flange on a gate stop and it pulled it, and broke the manifold! b-pipe was still fine. so when u slam it more u know there gona be take some scrappin'! | |

| Sweet, well its gotto be better than the paper mache exhaust atm, that decat is fucked too, lol. It sounds like the baffles have come loose and are rattling around inside, my dad had a good idea which i might actually do, just slam a couple of self tappers through it, should grab the baffling and pull it taought against the pipe to stop the rattling. Actually i might just smash the internals out of it with a pole? | |

| EF's are easy and cheap to mod really, and theres an abundance of parts for them, i would go with it.
lets hope, im guessing teh bearings will need replacing at a minimum.
Im thinking of doing a mild DIY port/polish too, thats all that differs my head cast from a type argh one, just reading up on it a bit, anyone have experience with this (waits for import trung)

| More progress today; Got the sump off, the oil pickup (which had bits of what looked like copper in the mesh), windage tray and then got the big ends off and............the bearings are fucked!! thats where all the copper looking bits were from. Took off the crank mains (which also had fucked bearings) and got piston #4 out, the rings look ok so i dunno about that, im gunna take it all to an engine place and have them look over everythin with me. snapped a couple with my fone: Mains bearing: Sandwich bags ftfw!! random pic of the head: Cant see any markings/stamps on the cams: On another note, my rat look wheels came yesterday, i ordered them with spider webs and leaves extras too ($$$$) | |

| Well today progress was stumped, got the crank pulley off (that shit was tiiight), and the rest of the pistons out, but i now need to get the engine out really to get the crank itself and i can then swap that knackered clutch out too. On a slightly better note, took the head, big ends, and mains to the engine centre for them to look over, there going to change the valve guides, stem seals, and price up having the crank ground and new shells. The guy said i was lucky and would get away with keeping the rods and mains themselves (hadnt spun the bearings), but the rings were fucked dispite them looking ok. before any work on removing the engine could resume it started pissing it down . anyway, as usual, heres a couple: Also my wheel adapters arived off of german ebay: And my WW stickers: | |
