| CBA's to take pics when im working on it. Anyway..... Finally got the teg and the silvia switched round so i can start welding in the bay of the silvia. Started cleaning the bay for paint prep with sponge and washing up liquid solution water, didnt work, pressure washer, didnt work, that bay is tattoo'd with grime! I got it as clean as i could anyway. Finally got to use my badass wire wheel for the grinder on the seam sealer, after everyone telling me how hard seam sealer is to get off this wire wheel just fucking ate through it like it was nothing! I started welding some of the holes im not using in the bay but it was quite windy so i kept getting spatter which meant ALOT of grinding down, i had to stop after a while cus the neighbours must have been losing there minds, lol. Before i packed up for the night i thought id whip the diff off to weld up tommorow, turned out to be alot more work than i first thought! and heavy! god damn is it heavy! The oem VLSD is going to be harder to weld up than i thought though, the diffs used in the how to guides are open, which i didnt know have ALOT easier access to the gears, il do my best and crack on with it tomorrow. Anyway after doing all that and packing up i finished up at 10:30!! fucking knackered!!!!! | |

| It's just oem s14, they come with vlsd's and I can tell you from experience it's no good for what I want to do, plus with wide wheels it will struggle even more to lock. | |

| I read up about shimming too, doesnt last as long and requires alot more fucking around. today with the help of jay webb and his miracle solution (a mix of thinners that would take the dirt off ANYTHING) we cleaned up the bay ready for prepping, i promise tommorrow i will get some pics before the big work begins. Cleaning the bay up has shown how little attention nissan pay to painting/sealing the bay, its easy to see where rust can take hold. Once it started raining we retired to the garage where we used the miracle solution to clean the diff out completely and blowtorched it to get it clean and to a decent temperature, then i started filling it with weld, its taking pretty well tbh, got the welder on max settings and its getting solid penetration, theres no way its going to fail anyway, i managed to fill 2 and a half holes before i ran out of wire (it uses alot to fill up a diff), so il get some more and finish it off the next couple of days. Im off to order some goodies now i finally have some scrilla | |

They aren't nice, it's just a typical bullshit VLSD that gets tired and then starts to one wheel the minute it gets warm. Shimming it is pointless bro, it's loads more work for something that eventually wears off and one wheels again - Get the mig spec 3 way bangbang edit lul shouldve read all the posts

| iv shimmed a axel..... never again ...very hard job keep away just weld the fcker but make sure the weld is good ezz as if you dont do right it could lock the diff up all it takes is a bit of weld to come loose and the axel is toast | |

| the engine bay atm, i really wish id have took some propper before pics, it was really really grimey, as you can see i started some of the welding. Also ordered some little bits and bobs for the build; Some black RTV for the diff, iv read that the oem paper gaskets are shit. Some more welding wire, turns out its suprsingly hard to get hold of round here :s An auto, solar powered mask, pissed off with having to look where i want to weld and hope the tip is still in the same place once iv grabbed the mask and started. Also ordered my new engine mounts :p | |

| im gunna use 2 and a half, maybe 3 if the engine still clears the bonnet, gives me more clearance under the car. Iv read 2 pucks isnt enough and 2.5 is bang on oem. From what iv read they are like full on stiff, cant wait for that race car feel Im now looking into welding a bracket to the rear hub/knuckle to mount a indipendant caliper/master setup just for handbrake, i need to stop using the interweb! | |

| The harder engine mounts feel great when your in the mood for them, but I don't see this being your average daily so it doesn't matter.
How much was your welder and where did you pick it up from?
Did you try machine mart for your wire? They stocked the rods whe. I was after some

| nah i didnt tbf, i got some off ebay for cheap though with free delivery, a couple of places had wire but not in the 7kg wheel i want.
My dad got it me as an early bday present, not sure how much, it was 2nd hand but only used a couple of times, basically new with some extra shit (mask, gas, regulator etc), was still on the original wire, i think the one i have (160TE) is about £300 new
Harder mounts dont really bother me, even daily tbf, i had innovative black's in the EK which i got used to after a while.
